Bloodrock was an early '70s hard rock band from Fort Worth, TX, led by singer/drummer Jim Rutledge for the first LP. They charted with six albums between 1970 and 1972 and scored a Top 40 hit with the morbid "D.O.A." from their second, gold-selling LP, Bloodrock 2. ~ William Ruhlmann, Rovi
A few years ago I got a call at my home in Fort Worth from an insurance salesman who said his name was Lee Pickens. I asked if he was the guitar player from the Fort Worth Bloodrock band and he said yes. Had a short conversation about the band but I didn't purchase any insurance. I saw them at the old Omar Khayam club in FW around 1969 before they made it big. I also saw them at The Box when they were The Crowd Plus One and before that as The Naturals. They have an interesting a history.

Ibeben, emicmisch: I tracked Lee Pickens to a car wash in Ft. Worth, don't know if he owns it or just works there. Was told he still plays occasionally in local clubs - would just about give my right nut to hear some of his stuff again. Possibly the best guitar innovator of his time.
emicmisch Lee Pickens could play as good as any top shelf rock guitarist I have ever heard. Unfortunately I have not heard anything about him since around 1975. I'd be curious to know.

they were a good band while they lasted...glad to find them here
Lee Pickens has the best guitar tone and sound of any guitarist I have ever heard--PERIOD! It's just a shame that Terry Knight's production hid it in the mix behind the rest of the band on "Bloodrock 2"

Originally had this on 8-track tape. Played it until the tape broke. Love this band. I have all their music. Wish they had done more.

Great Band! Wish these guys were from my area -- S.F Bay Area, but when I heard they were going to play one more time in Fort Worth Tx back in 2005, I made the trip. Lee Pickens was on fire, and the rest of the Band was great.
I saw BR when they opened for Grand Funk Railroad in the early 70s-it was a great concert; in fact I came back for more 2 days later after the 1st concert sold out in Houston, Tx..... a lot of fans liked the mix-I did. Both groups had good music and put on a great show; the music stays with you..., great drums, guitar, organ, all good together!
Absolute, ABSOLUTE bottom of the barrel... started out as sub-sub-sub-SUB Purple/Sabbath "boogie" monsters. Lumpy and tuneless!
And THEN they had the gall to switch a few members and morph into a....gasp...PROG ROCK act! The nerve of these pesky insects!!!They were crushed soon after, and none too soon.
Bloodrock's best LP was their later effort "Passage",both more intricate & more beautiful. It was a true prog rock LP success, unfortunately the public was no lomger interested in Bloodrock. The listeners who would have appreciated it were not Bloodrock listeners & the majority of Bloodrock's remaining listeners were not interested in that type of music.
