Forming in the small German town of Krefeld, Blind Guardian perfected a fusion of gothic- and fantasy-tinged European power metal with the velocity and technical precision of speed metal. Members Hansi Kürsch (vocals, bass), Marcus Siepen (guitar), André Olbrich (guitar), and Thomen Stauch (drums) initially called themselves Lucifer's Heritage, but elected to change when a 1986 demo tape began to achieve underground popularity. They signed with the No Remorse label and issued Battalions of Fear in 1988, following it with Follow the Blind a year later, which helped make a name for the band in Japan. Released in 1990, Tales from the Twilight World became an underground hit in Germany and led to a deal with that country's division of Virgin Records; their major-label debut, Somewhere Far Beyond, was released in 1992. After 1993's live Tokyo Tales, Blind Guardian hooked up with former Metallica producer Flemming Rasmussen for 1995's Imaginations from the Other Side. Issued in 1996, The Forgotten Tales was a collection of covers and alternate versions, setting the stage for 1998's Nightfall in Middle-Earth, a Tolkien-inspired concept album that finally became the band's first American release a year later. Century Media began reissuing portions of the band's back catalog in the U.S. the same year. In 2002, the band released A Night at the Opera, and followed up four years later with A Twist in the Myth. The German power metal quartet released its ninth studio album, At the Edge of Time, in 2010. ~ Steve Huey, Rovi
I found this band out while playing an rpg game called sacred 2 fallen angels I think it was a mission u had to do is get all their weapon like instruments for a one last gig and they play "this world is sacred" after the mission is finished u get their weapons to use so F'ing epic indeed
Greatest Metal Band of all time, Nightfall in middle earth is greatest album of all time, Wheel of Time is the greatest song of all time. I have seen all live : )
there is something about blind guardian that just rocks. the speed metal can be good, especially if your pissed, but add the fantasy element to the song subjects, and it blows me away. on top of that, the minstrel-ish songs feel so mysterious, and, being a tolkien enthusiest, i know what they talk about in songs like Nightfall! all around impressive and infective.
Hmm... I'm not sure if I like this band yet or not. So far, though, I haven't disliked anything by them enough to thumb it down, so that's a good sign.
I absolutely adore Blind Guardian's vocals and style. I'm not much for slower songs, but Road of No Release, Blood Tears, and Modred's Song are certainly able to hook me. Hands down favorite metal band.
i dont know if that is even a compliment-i've never met anyone who has been to a metallica or a guns and roses concert and i dont expect i ever will.move in different circles-if you know what i mean.
