Bill Hicks

Bill Hicks was the last great social satirist, the true descendent of comedians like Lenny Bruce and Richard Pryor. His work confronted the hypocrisies of late-20th century American life, divining comedy from the more evil impulses of the government and the mass media while assaulting the soullessness of mainstream culture. A longtime substance abuser, Hicks' monologues addressed issues of expanded consciousness and spirituality rare to the comedy format; for all of the rage inherent in his standup, his message was one of transcendence -- as he frequently reminded audiences, "The truth will set you free." Bill is blessed to be beyond the disappointme n t that has become society today. Can you imagine what he would say about the past decade? We need to remember the painful truths that he shoved in our ignorant faces and be thankful for his message.

I've met a Gideon before. His name was James and he was handing out bibles at Grays Harbor College in Aberdeen. He had someone else with him and they were legitimate Gideons. It was the first time ever in my life I met a Gideon. Wow.
I find it wonderful how he mixed his social satire with harmonious music, especially on Arizona Bay...
I like Hicks better than Carlin it's all a matter of opinion

Last great social satirist? So I guess Carlin is just a wet pile of dog turds huh? Hicks is great and all, but he's still #2 to Carlin. Carlin is the superior performer, with a better stage presence and tighter routines.

What a great talent he had for delivering the message of social injustice in America with a strong sense of humor.
Comics like this are a rare breed and you will hear many popular comics today pay homage to Bill for his disturbing funny social commentary and for not giving a sh*t what the audience thought. He was pure genius and bravery. I had the chance to see him shortly before his death in Walnut Creek, CA at the Punchline. He got booed off the stage at the end but I thought he was brilliant. I GOT him! It was my first introduction to him and I will never forget it and the empathy I felt for him.

The one person we need the most in our times, is gone.....
Bill would have dropped dead anyway if he lived past the year 2000. He is the greatest and still one of the most relevant. I wish he could be here to comment on things like texting and the Jonas brothers, not to mention the internet and the state of our government. But we can all take a guess on how great it would be. RIP Bill, a man before his time.
Then you are completely and postitvely missing the point of what BILL HICKS was all about WILLIAM KEVIN MILLER.

He was too real for you.

His comedy is all about SOCIAL COMMENTARY. And guess what smart guy....the state of our "society" is in bad, bad shape and has been steadily declining for a long time. Bill just saw it, lived it and felt it on a truly deep level finding the horror and the humor in it. He was genius and a gifted soul that mankind really needs, especially now.
Seemed to me a miserable person, never happy with anything...
He left way too soon...
Mr. Hicks was far beyond his time, a true prophet and philosopher.
If only he knew Billy Cyrus would have a child that would exemplify everything he hated about pop culture lol.
Hicks was definately amazing. I would love to hear what he'd have to save about the world we live in today.
