One of my favorite Beatles song. Just a couple of minor lyrics corrections: Semolina Pilchard, climbing up the Eiffel Tower... (whatever that is...) and, as I recall from the album cover, Coronation penguins singing Hare Krishna...
I love how this song makes no sense! John is a genius. I heard that he wrote this song to throw people off after he heard that a teacher was asking his students to find the meaning of their songs. So he filled the song with a bunch nonsense like "elementary penguins" and "sitting on a cornflake". I also heard that he later said "Let your students figure that one out!" Once again I state that John Lennon was an absolute genius. This is my favorite song.
Bob Dylan's introducing The Beatles to marijuana was the reason they were able to go from "Love Me Do" to "Norwegian Wood" so quickly

Yes" here's another clue for you all. the walrus was Paul" from Glass Onion on the white album . John was absolutely brilliant. He was also a bit jealous of Paul and Paul's prolific pop song writing abilities. That's why John came up with the whole Paul is Dead hoax,to try to kill him off metaphorically. And why Paul came back later with "some people think the world has had enough of silly love songs. Paul McCartney is the Mozart of our time.
About the lyrics: As others noted, Pandora left out ''Semolina Pilchard''. As for the nonsense, according to http://www.aboutthebeatles.com/song-i_am_the_walrus.php : After John learned that a teacher was having his students study Beatles songs for meaning, he created the song with nonsense lines such as ''elementary penguins'', ''sitting on a cornflake'', and ''crabalocker''. John later said ''Let (the students) work that one out.''
For those wondering what the song is about- nothing. John was basically fed up with everyone reading meanings into all their lyrics. He wrote this as a joke putting in as much inane lyrics as he could. At least that's what I have read. Anyway a great song.

One of my favorites and it goes great with the good stuff mentioned below.
Like it or not, Beatles music pretty much stands on it's own as music, even stripped of the pop phenomena. Rhythm, melody, harmony, and lyrics (usually) are all there in fine form. If the world is still around in 200 years, there's only a fraction of 20th century music that will still be listened to. I'm confident the Beatles music will be there.
