Detroit-area indie rock quintet Bear vs. Shark only formed officially in 2001, but guitarist John Gaviglio, vocalist Marc Paffi, bassist Mike Muldoon, second guitarist Derek Kiesgen, and drummer Brandon Moss had known each other since junior high school. Influenced by crushing highs and soul-searching lows of '90s emo and indie, Bear vs. Shark self-released a debut and gigged throughout the metro Detroit and Lansing area, all the while waiting for most of its membership to graduate from college. Once that hurdle was conquered, the band signed with the New York indie Equal Vision, which released the ambitiously textured rock of Right Now, You're in the Best of Hands in July 2003. The album's release was followed by a year of heavy touring (with acts like Hopesfall, Hey Mercedes, and Coheed & Cambria), so heavy that Bear vs. Shark's website recounted numerous tour van mishaps. By September 2004 Bear vs. Shark were back in Michigan and making plans for a second album; Terrorhawk was released in mid-2005. Sadly, the bandmembers announced their breakup before the year's end. ~ Johnny Loftus, Rovi
wtf?right?bear vs shark rocked my soul right out of its speedo, but no no we dont need a good band touring around lets leave them with this...terrorhawk best albumb ever
This band is my favorite bad of all time. For some reason, Terrorhawk was the only CD that got me through a break up and kept my head up. Their music is absolutely amazing and I'm only sad that I was too young to see them live.
@lucassheetz: I had the pleasure of playing a show with these cats back in '05 when they were on tour with The Fall of Troy. It was easily one of the coolest experiences of my life! Same thing; Marc raged all around and I literally sang almost every lyric of their set with him/them...it was a blast! Oh, how I miss them!

You should mention in the bio that Marc Paffi and Brandon Moss have moved on to Bars of Gold. And/or get some Bars of Gold playing on Pandora!
So jealous of you Lucassheetz. That is so awesome. I never got to see the awesomeness that is Bear vs. Shark live...I can only hope one day they will do a sentimental small reunion show. Ha!
saw these dudes twice. once right after the release of terrorhawk, at a tiny a** coffee house with horse the band. there was no stage, me and one other dude stood there as marc passed the mic back and forth to this guy and i the whole entire set. best show ever. r.i.p. bvs
terrorhawk changed my life, honestly. i haven't looked at music the same since i first listened to it like 4 years ago. maybe not that extreme, but seriously one of my favorite bands of all time. GET IN IT
Dont forget holding your microphone in your mouth to free up your hands.

yes, live shows were great. their tour coupled with the now old-hopesfall was even better. climbing in the rafters, on heating/cooling ducts, upside down singing/yelling... playing they keyboard by standing on the keys. now thats how you rock.

i dig bears and i love sharks....this band has it all. and by "all" i mean "it"....
I went to a many a BVS concerts when I lived in Lansing MI. They are all of normal size and put on one of the craziest live shows you have ever seen. I shed a tear when I heard they were breaking up.
