Battles is a quartet comprised of drummer John Stanier of Helmet and Tomahawk, guitarist/keyboardist Ian Williams of Don Caballero and Storm & Stress, guitarist David Konopka of Lynx, and avant solo musician Tyondai Braxton. All members bring their honed-in angular math skills of past glory to Battles. The Tras and EP C EPs were both released in June 2004 on Cold Sweat and Monitor respectively. The B EP followed on Dim Mak in September 2004. The Atlas EP followed in early 2007, followed in turn by the band's proper full-length debut, Mirrored, in May 2007. In 2010, Braxton announced he was leaving the band to pursue his own solo work while the rest of the group set to work on a new record as a trio. The following year, Battles released their second full-length album, Gloss Drop. ~ David Serra, Rovi
John Stanier is THE man. Plus, he looks like Shooter McGavin. Can't beat that!

Not bad musicianship at all. Would be nice if they had some occasional vocals and a little more variation to their sound, If they do I haven't heard it. By today's standards I think that this is pretty good material though. I think that this is what falls into the modern post rock instrumental genre. I wouldn't attempt to compare them to bands like King Crimson or Van Der Graff Generator. Just wouldn't be a fair fight.
i loved this band ever since a gay guy came into my store all excitedly to give me their cd's. yeah, it was stealing, but it was the most worth it theft of that month. i steal a lot.
all yalls need to do is see these badasses live. futurestic dance party. f**king amazing. and they make everyone who makes techno look like little sissy poon tangs cause they play the s**t with instruments and play it better and faster and with more soul. probably the coolest band ever. they own all asses
ALL I KNOW IS THIS BAND ROCKS AT A TOTAL DIFFERENT LEVEL AND SPEED. THEY DO IT LOUDER, FASTER, AND CLASSIER. LIKE WHEN THE DUELING PIANOS GO OF IN ATLAS THAT IS SO SICK THEY PLAY A KEY AND A KEY
You must be f**king crazy pccstudio. Battles is the s**t, you don't know what the hell your talking about. I wish there were more bands out there that were as creative as Battles.
having a hard time getting excited about battles. I really want to, but so far, it's pretty meh. It should be better

yeah...the first few battles ep's were great. i saw them play in a few basements in new york city years ago. the full length was really dissapointing.
ian williamson was better off with don cab...american don was an incredible album, without which battle would have never happened.
unfortunately don cab is still touring, but they've reverting back to their early metal days.
Saw these guys live, they kick so much a**. Their drummer is like the second coming of Keith Moon and he plays a really f**king high symbol. Battles is really f**king amazing, if you havent seen them live, do it! You will have your mind blown off of it's hinges by the sheer power and complexity of the music. They are the gods of math rawk, they are the f**king gods of math rock!
