Architecture In Helsinki

The Australian indie pop ensemble Architecture in Helsinki hail from Fitzroy, Melbourne, and have counted multi-instrumentalists Cameron Bird, James Cecil, Gus Franklin, Isobel Knowles, Jamie Mildren, Sam Perry, Tara Shackell, and Kellie Sutherland among their ranks. The band's musical arsenal is even bigger than its roster, featuring instruments as diverse as analog synths and samplers, glockenspiel, tuba, clarinet, and recorder along with the more predictable drums, bass, and guitar. Architecture in Helsinki began playing in 2000, crafting a mix of indie, electronic, and pop that they recorded and occasionally performed live. The collective began recording its debut album, Fingers Crossed, in 2002 in a variety of places ranging from beach houses to proper studios; Bar/None released the album in spring 2004. Following a hectic year of touring and recording, the group turned around another album, In Case We Die, in 2005. The release drew glowing reviews, fixing Architecture in Helsinki as one of that year's most promising and idiosyncratic indie acts. Frontman and primary songwriter Bird relocated to Brooklyn a year later, where he and producer James Cecil put the finishing touches on the group's third effort, Places Like This. The album was released on Polyvinyl in 2007. Bird returned to Australia and the group, now a quintet including Perry, Mildren, Sutherland, and Franklin, released the That Beep single in 2008. They recorded their fourth album in their studio, Buckingham Palace, over the course of two years. The result was Moment Bends, which was released in early 2011. The album's turn toward '80s synth pop became even more pronounced on their next album, as did a newfound love of disco. Written and recorded over a 15-month span, 2014's NOW + 4EVA was produced by the band and François Tetaz (Gotye, Kimbra), and released on their own Casual Workout label. ~ Heather Phares, Rovi

catchy tunes....
One of my friends is pretty close to this band, and I used to love to say mean things about them within earshot...(b e c a u s e mostly, I'm a fuckstick dickhole) and dammitall, SURPRISE SURPRISE~ I am finding myself liking their music (when exposed surreptiousl y ) .

IT'S A CONSPIRACY!
I really love luv this band

It's best not to hate, especially if you have sh*&y taste. That being said, LOVE LOVE LOVE AIH.
These guys remind me of my buddie who used to take shrooms all the time and walk everywhere, and then stop at empty walls and go and paint them. Goddamn I miss you Davey.
I dig this. A friend in boulder, told me about this. I'm glad, because i'm just a hick from Arkansas, your right music shifts; as, does are being.
hahaha niko dont bother. if people dont understand it then dont try to explain it because they wont listen. that said, these guys are awesome. fun and different.
Yeah, you're right, Niko. This band sure does break barriers. If by "barriers" you mean "a**holes". And by "break" you mean "stick their penises into".

In other words, they're f**king horrible. Don't try to justify their horrible-nes s by jumping on the indie bandwagon. These guys. Are s**t.

EDIT: Also, I forgot to mention, your post just makes you sound like a f**king hipster douchebag. Great job!
longfade is a jackass, i've seen your porfile, you defeat the whole purpose of this site, you listen to everything that has been known to ge good for the past decade or so, this is about music discovery, music has shifted in direction like never before, bands like this one break barriers, go where music hasen't gone, how can someone not embrace the change, it has been only getting better and better and this is proof...
The harmony in this song sounds like 33hz...

Wow, longfade. That's very nice. Go away.
Oh my how I love AIH. It's just so cute and catchy and guh. They best keep it up.
That's the worse, most obnoxious god damned stuff I've heard in ages. Pathetic.

I saw these guys open for Skid Row back in 1989. Best show ever. They played for 6 hours straight without potty breaks. Wait, who are we talking about?
Give a listen to "Do The Whirlwind (hot chip remix)" It has that warm fuzzy old school synth sound.
tastey...
One of the more inventive indie bands, their music is filled with many unexpected and pleasantly surprising instrumental arrangements combined with fun melodies and an explosive energy. At some moments you'd swear the band was bringing back the 90's synth pop, while the very next song would suggest something entirely different. They are a must hear for any self-proclai m e d indie music fan.

I found "In Case We Die" at my local library. The artist name sounded familiar and interesting, so I borrowed it. To my surprise, it was an EXCELLENT album. I'm sad that I hadn't heard of this band before. Great music.
i like them guys

Ummm...love it!
I hope they come back to Denton, Texas! They are awsome live, too!

Okay, I'm impressed.
Really captured me when I saw their music video for Do the Whirwind. Some songs are a bit too "girly" for me (I listen to Metal too, cut me a break), but I love a lot of the more rockin' songs from Places Like This.
Architecture ' s got such a great sound; some songs they make me wanna get up and jump around with my friends, like Like It Or Not, other songs are just plain adorable, like Souvenirs. All in all one of my favorite bands.
they're amazin for shore
freaken sweet
