Arch Enemy

Formed by ex-Carnage, Carcass, and Candlemass guitarist Michael Amott (concurrently of Spiritual Beggars) with his brother Christopher (Armageddon), Arch Enemy took a straight-ahead approach to death metal reminiscent of Entombed or late-period Carcass, blending catchy, classic-style metal riffs with crushing grooves for an intense yet accessible sound. The group's charter lineup was rounded out by bassist/vocalist Johan Liiva (Carnage, Furbowl) and drummer Daniel Erlandsson (Eucharist, session work for In Flames); they released their debut album, Black Earth, in 1996. For their second album, 1998's Stigmata, Armageddon bassist Martin Bengtsson took over those duties from vocalist Liiva, while Armageddon drummer Peter Wildoer sat in for Erlandsson. More personnel turnover ensued, as Mercyful Fate reunion bassist Sharlee D'Angelo (also formerly of Witchery and Dismember) joined up for 1999's Burning Bridges, which also featured the return of Erlandsson. Wages of Sin from 2001 found Johan Liiva departing and replaced by Angela Gossow.

After touring extensively across Europe and Japan, the band returned to the studio and released Anthems of Rebellion in 2003. The EP Dead Eyes See No Future was released by the end of the year and featured a mix of cover versions and live tracks. The album Doomsday Machine landed in July of 2005 right as guitarist Christopher Amott announced he was leaving the band. Former Tiamat member Fredrik Åkesson replaced him, though the two would switch places again two years later with Åkesson leaving the band to join Opeth, and Amott taking back his spot on guitar. The band then released its seventh album, Rise of the Tyrant, in 2007. The album would be Arch Enemy's most successful album to date, and they followed up the release by heading out on tours with Swedish metal giants Opeth and Dark Tranquillity. In 2009 the band looked back to its older material with The Root of All Evil. The album featured tracks from the band's first three albums that were re-recorded with current singer Angela Gossow. Arch Enemy reported they were entering the studio at the end of 2010, planning to release their ninth album in mid-2011. ~ Steve Huey, Rovi

Don't read this because it actually works. You will be kissed on the nearest possible Friday by the love of you life. Tomorrow will be the best day of your life. However if you don't post this you will die in 2 days. Now you've started reading so don't stop. This is so scary put this on at least 5 songs in 143 minutes. When done press f6 and your lover's name will come on the screen in big letters. This is so scary because it actually works
Best female vocalist ever. Music is like Priest on meth. Love it love it!
THIS BANDS MUSICAL ABILITY IS AMAZING!& consistent(f r o m what i've heard)I cant even put it in2 WORDS HOW MUCH THEIR MUSIC SPEAKS 2 ME!Took me a while 2 accept the vocal,BUT from all the CHEEZY CLICHE tough guy growling.SHE IS DOING IT FOR ME! It actually adds 2 most of their songs. But my guess is that from such song writing/guit a r talent that THEY R probably in control of what is being laid down on the tracks & she is probably digitally enhanced. Which is fine. And how ingenious was it to add her
Nice.
Check out my stations
This band always finds the melody that I want to hear. First 'Nemesis' and now this.
Angela you f**kin rule
Coil
this s**t kicks a** !
Yes!!! Her voice is so harsh & puts many male death metal vocalists to shame. 666 \m/
i was shocked when i found out the singer was female
The Enemy Rules! I've like everything I've heard by them. Not just the killer metal, which it totally is, but the production and mixing as well. I gotta say, Doomsday Machine and Kaos Legions are my favorites!
ANGELA GOSSOW IS EATING MY SOUL!!!! IT HURTS SO GOOOOD!!!!!
Those guitarists have a lot of talent even I have trouble playing their songs
Right!?
Wow, I don't know how they manage to have a female be the lead singer of a death metal band like this, (I know I'm stereotyping a little) but they're pulling it off. Very impressive.
Coparison guitars rule too!!!!!!
The singer chic scares the s**t outta me. lol
miazwildt
Great band, but nothing like Entombed. The bio sucks.
Arch Enemy F**KING KILL!!!!! I'LL BUY SHOTS FOR THEM ANYTIME!!!!! ! ! ! ! \m/ >:)
Arch Enemy rules! I saw them live in 2010, sadly missed seeing them again last year. They played all my favorite songs. Love them. \m/
Saw them in Arizona years ago. I'd F**K Angela Gossow. Hot as hell and can not just growl but sing as well.
Why is it that when you hear a girl that can growl or scream, you assume they're transvestite s ? Are maria brink and otep women? Yes. So Samille11 and Kenny Barth... Shut the f**k up. That's the problem with people today. They judge judge judge. Enjoy the music and stfu. Arch Enemy rules. Many thanks to Angela for teaching me how to growl & scream
i dont care if its a transvestite Arch Enemy F'n own!!!
I don't care whether or not their singer is a man or a woman, because she's f**king awesome.

I hate to admit it, but I actually like the band MORE because of Angela's vocals...is it that I buy into gimmicks? Or is it that there is just something super-hot about a woman destroying the stereotypes about what they should and shouldn't do? OTEP's singer is full blown lesbian, and yet I feel the exact same way about her and that band. They should tour once together, if they haven't already.
Arch Enemy is definitely a very good death metal band they rock the house!

I've always been somewhat narrow when it comes to my musical taste. I've
occasionally listened to Arch Enemy before, but the more I hear them, the more I like them. Definately will have to go to a concert of theirs. (After the Big 4 at Yankee Stadium ofcourse)

new album is fukn amazing!
Damn... new album huh? Anybody hear it yet? Any good?
malerba310
In love.
awsome band I have been listning for a few years, never knew it was a girl doing the growling she makes the guys sound like girls.
Light this city, has power metal riffs but death metal vocals, kind of like amon armoth but with a chick singer prety good s**t.
zjfox43
I love this band! They are too great! And the singing, I can't believe that is a female. She is a good singer.
IN FLAMES--they use a combo of death vocals and clean vocals at times--like the much better musically as well.
Absolutely love the style of the guitars but the vocals kind of kill it for me. Anyone know of similar bands that have a more musical vocal style or even no vocals at all?
a bit too rawr rawr for me...hardcor e tho that it for sure.
TOTAL BALLS!!
all hail metal....it just never fades in me
Damn, you can't copy and paste it properly... Just google image her!
Ummm... Imagine having sex with Angela Gossow. I bet she would take control of the situation and bite your head of when shes done like a praying mantis. Scary... but worth it. you can't deny her hotness, copy and paste this... Tell me you wouldnt and I bet you love a firm set of mantacles bouncing off your chin. http://image . b l o g . b i t c o m e t . c o m / p o s t p i c / 2 0 0 8 0 1 1 8 / 2 9 1 9 7 0 2 _ r w u b v c 0 8 0 1 1 8 1 6 5 9 2 1 . j p g
