After playing for a few years in the "straight" music world as a member of the uniquely virtuosic Washington, D.C.-based metalcore band Reflux, seven- and eight-string guitar wizard Tosin Abasi was asked to record a solo album by the group's then record label, Prosthetic Records, once the group disbanded. At first, Abasi declined on the grounds that to do so would be "egotistical," but he eventually relented and founded a new entity named Animals as Leaders (inspired by Daniel Quinn's 1992 anthropocentric novel Ishmael) to function as this solo project. An eponymous debut album followed in April of 2009 and saw Abasi handling all guitar and bass tracks, while drums and other synthesized sound effects were programmed by engineer Misha Mansoor. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia, Rovi
I agree with 95 percent of the comments below. Great band, Reignited my love of heavy music. I love their innovation. Sounds a bit grunge and 90's too awesome stuff.
The band I play with in California got the amazing oppurtunity to play that show in long beach California by far the best show I've ever seen in my life it was truly life changing everyone should go see this band live there f**king amazing I f**king love AAL they changed my life I cried I was so f**kin inspired

AAL re-ignited my love for not only heavy music but music in general. The landscape is bleak these days.

Javi is just as involved as Tosin and they never mention him in the bio above.
Animals as leaders has the most beautiful heavy metal sounding music. It's so uplifting and then triumphantly continuously mind blowing music that could stop a baby from crying. It's magnificent.
I had never heard of this group till I randomly saw them live at a festival in long beach, California and now I can't get enough of it! Best music I've heard in a long time!
Saw these guys live a while back, first I ever heard of them. All I can say is you NEED to see them live, sure they're good in studio, but unless they've changed something their visual performance is unmatched (compared to anyone else I've seen)
tosin abasi is such an average 8 string guitar player and only gives me a mediocre mindgasm. the dimension it propels my spirit into is completely structured and repetitive.
Saw them live in Seattle before they were popular. I didnt even know who they were i went there to see Darkest Hour. They literally dropped my jaw for an hour.
These guys make a great station, I would love to see this band live. There's no doubt in my mind that they're amazing.

Most amazing live preformance from any group I've seen to date. The pit was even fantastic, not overly aggressive, but a ton of fun!

you never see a negative comment here. people only post about bands they like, so posting and reading these is just a nice way to raise your self esteem and such.

you know what i like about pandora? they play music.
Their first album is so much better than weightless, don't get me wrong i like weightless but its just doesn't have the same wow factor as the first album. Still an amazing band!

I DARE you to like this band more than me. Ok, you guys win...damn...I still like em a lot though...
Saw these guys at concert at Summer Slaughter at the Fillmore. They were the opening act, but easily one of the best bands that played that day. Tosin shreds.
Most talented band to ever come across my ears and my favorite EVER... or to not over-glorify them, YET. Best of both worlds indeed with those jazzy solo, and aggressive (or at least, highly passionate) metal feel. Truly inspirational music.

This is very dense, sophisticated music and should appeal to jazz lovers and metal heads alike. I can't wait for the next album.
