At the center of An Angle is youthful Sacramento songwriter Kris Anaya. He tapped various pals in area bands to record And Take It With a Grain of Salt, the project's debut, which he released on his own imprint in 2002. It proved to be a rambling indie pop sensation, incorporating comfy folk and emo touches and suggesting a little of everyone from Bright Eyes to the Pogues. The album was picked up by Drive-Thru, which offered its re-release in November 2004. Next was a tour with Drive-Thru act Steel Train, and then Angle returned to the studio to record more music. We Can Breathe Under Alcohol (Drive-Thru) appeared in May 2005. It featured a similarly revolving cast of musicians and instruments, and the same intuitive pop sense. An Angle launched a spring and summer tour in support. The band's third release, The Truth Is That You Are Alive, emerged two years later. ~ Johnny Loftus, Rovi
My guess is that they started this band as a homage/parody of Bright Eyes but it kind of developed from there. I'm just guessing, but it can't be a complete coincidence that they write that rambling, comfy folk when Bright Eyes is popular. Then, they probably stopped when they actually appreciated what he was doing a bit too much and needed to start their own, original band.

I'm with AK. "I'm upset that I "liked" this song, thinking it was another of Conor's side projects. This album doesn't "suggest" Bright Eyes. It smacks you repeatedly over the head with it. "
I hope that this band turns out to be some complex practical joke that Conor is playing on us all...

Well, let's think about his pragmatically....more Bright Eye's clones in this country is better than reproductions of....our other national pastimes: War, Hair Bands, Consumerism, Red-baiting, Racism and Xenophobia....I don't know....
read the bio, of course the person singing is connor

A friend of mine knows this band- supposedly Connor Oberst showed up at one of their shows and called them out mid-show for their blatant emulation. Wish I could have seen that...
Even the album cover, album name . . . add that to the way this guy's singing, the background noise . . . it's a bright eyes wannabe in the worst of ways!

My God...it sounds exactly like Conor! Too weird. Even the way he yells?!

I agree, it has to be a rip-off of Bright Eyes' "Lifted." "my screen door stands open"?
heygirlfriend7
