Great song, first time I heard this the lyrics just stuck with me. Oz never did give nothing to the Tin Man he did not already have. I understood that line. The tropic of Sir Galahad? This song still just makes me happy.

Love this song and america!

Everything is too black and white these days.... Our brain cries when it tried to form its own opinion.... Long live the Arts!

Love the trippy songs that allow me to dream ....and my own artistic meaning behind the song.... To me when I was young I was just thrilled to hear tin man in a song, then as a teen I felt the realness chilling with my close friends, then the alcohol spinning round round round, then came the going down adult late night real stuff..... Who knows what the heck he thought....j u s t escape with all kinds of music and enjoy!

I've been taught not to overscrutini z e the lyrics of certain songs. Just let the music wash over you.

Man do I love America. I was a bit to young to appreciate them when they were at the height of their popularity, but I have made up for that over the years.

Awesome song.

They captured a moment in the 70's that they made their own. Wonderful.

sippa9...The y actually wanted money to appear? What a dastardly concept. Reminds me too much of the guy I bring my car to. I told him, listen Goober, in Moscow, you didn't have to pay to get your car fixed. He thought for a moment, said 'that's because Commies didn't have cars', then whacked me with his socket wrench (it felt like a 7/16ths). I paid him of course.

Haven't you ever been there, sometimes late when things are real and people share the gift of gab between themselves? I guess that was just the runway for the composer to take off to go down, down, down, soap glass stain bright colors, image going down, down down, soap sud green like bubbles :-) Don't get caught up in logic, just enjoy. Let your right brain make sense of it (feeling not thinking).

He already had a heart, it was the whole point of the wizard of OZ. It is also the only line in this jam that remotely makes any sense at all.

lulymar123
ooh ahh lovely...
Report as inappropriate
Yes - he DID give him a heart, but if you paid attention to the movie, he really ALREADY had heart, as exhibited by his trying to lay his life on the line for Dorothy -- hence, Oz never did give nothin' to the Tin Man that he didn't alreay have

Actually, this song IS kinda nonsensical. . a n d I do appreciate many of America's song...just not this one. The writer was just tooooo stoned!!!... l o l So it really does "blow" lolol Even some of the Beatles songs had similar nonsensical lyrics and were pretty bad..and I LOVE the Beatles.

"And cause never was the reason for the evenin'..." Huh? :D (laughing)

Oh well, you know, whenever I want to not make any sense in my songs, or just be completely out of it or really casual, etc., I just say, "Well, since America did it, why can't I?"

Takes me way back. Summer of "74. Hit Parader Mag and Creem... Those were the days.

I love 'Tin Man'. Nice major 7ths and 9ths. Sounds great, even on a crappy guitar. And who ever sang lead on this one, is my fav singer of the trio. I think it was Gerry Beckley (sp)? Anyone?
Report as inappropriate
The first song by America that really got me into them. I mean, I knew "Horse With No Name," but that one doesn't do much for me.

If that actually was your Dad...good show sir. My dad was a musician too, but one that was more likely to beat you bloody.

Not a nice fellow.
