Alvin Lee

As with many of the other English beat groups of the '60s, Alvin Lee cut his musical teeth in Hamburg, Germany in a band called the Jaybirds. By 1966, back in England, he had changed the name of his band to Ten Years After and was rapidly becoming a major attraction because of the virtuosity of his solo work. Most Americans first became familiar with Alvin Lee through his appearance at Woodstock, although he remained active throughout the decades which followed; among his releases were 1974's In Flight, 1986's Detroit Diesel, and 1996's Live in Vienna. ~ All Music Guide, Rovi

After all these years...and a lot more than 10, I still remember when I saw him in the Memorial Coliseum in Portland, Oregon.... think it was around 74? Blew me away with his ability to rock his guitar, rocked the whole house that night, been a favorite ever since. I didn't know that he passed. RIP Alvin Lee, when you're not jamming the spirit world!

Alvin was a great guitarist and song writer all the way up until his passing. I couldn't wait for his next CD's. He played in so many different styles, rock, blues, boogie and oldies to name a few. Recommend picking up Sagiitar, awesome Alvin CD
FYI avoid Last Show cd, but DO buy the remastered Recorded Live, & Positive Vibrations. Make sure you get the new ones with all of the bonus tracks.

I like ten year's after's meandering versions of old standards like woodchoppers ball
I got to see Alvin Lee in a small bar in San Diego about 12 years ago- it was like having one of the greatest guitarists of all time play for you personally in your living room. We were right by the stage and he was incredible. I was going to name my first son after him, but I just couldn't have a kid go through life with the name Alvin! He's jammin' w/ Jimi, Stevie and all the rest that have gone before us to the great gig in the sky

You are right Phillip! I will too. I had the honor of working for Alvin in 1974 for one concert in Germany ( had the option of going on tour with them. The Army wouldn't have liked it much however!)
I will miss new songs by this great artist. R.I.P.
Thanks for the music, R.I.P.
The MAN!! 'Nuff Said!!
I saw Ten Years After just a few months after they played Woodstock and they put on a great show. I can still remember Alvin coming out for an encore and playing Sweet Little 16 and tearing the place up. RIP to another rock legend.
Saw him at Winterland in San Francisco right after Woodstock. Ten Years After Rocked the Place. RIP Alvin Lee.

Cheesy little bio. Alvin Lee in three sentences. Maybe they'll be nicer now that he's not around to appreciate it.
Saw him many times. One of the greats; a guitar virtuoso. What a void without him being among us. Big Red will miss him, as will I. Thanks for the Rockin and Rollin, Alvin. Peace be with you. rwh, jd---------- > > > > . . . . .

saw TYA back in 1971 in Indy; unbelievable , memorable show. Alvin still sounds great.
can't get the local station to play anything but 'I'd love to change the world what the world needs is more positive vibrations. I was first introduced to him in 71, listened to i'm going home the woodstock version almost every day on my way home for school. the local d.j. plays snipits to close out his morning show but won't play it otherwise, what a d&^%$.
say him live many times as Ten Years After & Ten Years Later, always a great show
A Master, Rock, Blues all of it, Alvin Thank you buddy!
From Kalamazoo Michigan and mom worked at Gibson Guitar until 1984 when they moved to Nashville TN. My Mom worked in quality controle and finger board inspection. "If it wasn't right, it didn't ship out of Kalamazoo!"
If you notice, Mr. Lee playes only Gibson 335G git box, pre 1984. Rock&Roll never sounded better on this type of guitar. His "Pure Blues Album is one of my fav. ROCK ON !
