What a gorgeous piece of music. Very well crafted. It resonates well in one's soul. Greg tells a great story of how he essentially had the song written and was playing with female names and none were fitting the way he wanted. He then was grocery shopping and heard a mother call for her daughter named Melissa. So somewhere out there is a grown woman named Melissa who never knew she was the muse for this great tune. I name all my cars and I named one car Melissa after this song. Peace.

Something about the guitar in this that reaches deep into your soul and tugs at your heart.
my favorite song. Heard this first time when I was 17--that was 40 years ago. Anything they did was so good

Great song and album. A real work of art. The Allman's and the band at their best. I've listened to this song so many times over the years and have never gotten tired of it. It always touches me in a special way.
I bought this album on 8 track when it came out. I drove a hopped up 67 Camaro and listened to Eat A Peach until I wore it out. Great memories of almost 40 years ago listening to this album and blasting down the road in my Camaro. Things seemed simpler when you were 18.
Dickey and Gregg have had their battles over the years but on this tune, they were in perfect symmetry. God, how I love how that guitar soars over the mysterious and soulful voice. Had this tune at my wedding. I will have it at my wake. Awesome stuff!
If I had a girl I would have named her Melissa because of this song. While it isn't the excellent blues the Allman Brothers are known for, it is a song that has always taken me away to a beautiful place. Heaven.
