so sweet.
What a gorgeous piece of music. Very well crafted. It resonates well in one's soul. Greg tells a great story of how he essentially had the song written and was playing with female names and none were fitting the way he wanted. He then was grocery shopping and heard a mother call for her daughter named Melissa. So somewhere out there is a grown woman named Melissa who never knew she was the muse for this great tune. I name all my cars and I named one car Melissa after this song. Peace.
Beautiful song love all there music. ALLMAN BROTHERS ROCK.

What a great song, 27 years ago I was sitting in a bar in Niagara Falls NY (Alibi) right after my daughter wasborn, heard the song went back to the hospital and changed her name from Haley to Melissa....

Something about the guitar in this that reaches deep into your soul and tugs at your heart.
my favorite song. Heard this first time when I was 17--that was 40 years ago. Anything they did was so good

Great song and album. A real work of art. The Allman's and the band at their best. I've listened to this song so many times over the years and have never gotten tired of it. It always touches me in a special way.

I was named after this song and still one of my favorites.
Fantastic song!
Great album. Heard it when I was a kid. In my CD player continually as an adult!!
I agree! Sing it Gregg.

I bought this album on 8 track when it came out. I drove a hopped up 67 Camaro and listened to Eat A Peach until I wore it out. Great memories of almost 40 years ago listening to this album and blasting down the road in my Camaro. Things seemed simpler when you were 18.
as the morning dew surounds me in a not so unfamiler place her sounds surround me and make it a better place

Lucky enough to have married a girl named Melissa so we always have this song.
fan through and through, when he hits the notes of this ballad--just cant be replicated.
dedicated to love
truly love this song
Dickey and Gregg have had their battles over the years but on this tune, they were in perfect symmetry. God, how I love how that guitar soars over the mysterious and soulful voice. Had this tune at my wedding. I will have it at my wake. Awesome stuff!
brings on tears

If I had a girl I would have named her Melissa because of this song. While it isn't the excellent blues the Allman Brothers are known for, it is a song that has always taken me away to a beautiful place. Heaven.
Sweeeet Melissa....
Good ol' Ga. diddy...for all the southern Melissa's out there.
One of the greatest songs of all time.

Originally recorded by Hourglass, this song took on a haunting quality after Duane's untimely demise. Wail on, SkyDog!
should this be dedicated to Melissa E. Briggs?
