Como hace falta esta música sabrosa en estos tiempos.
This music was spontaneous and was played from the ear and the heart. As can be heard it was the best of times for musicians and finally the listeners

This aggregation of legends was led by none other than Charlie Palmieri. His arrangements and musical direction placed this group of virtuoso's into the stratosphere of latin music.

You can't discuss the Alegre All Stars without paying tribute to the inspired genius of Al Santiago!
I had the pleasure of being in the company of Ralph Mercado and Tuffy Sanchez when this whole thing was starting. It was the best of times. These guys played their hearts out. A time I will never forget.
It is the inspiration, the devotion of the artist to their art, losing themselves in the performance of their part and the whole that makes this a terrific time--incred i b l y beautiful music to which I return to lose myself...

como estas orquestas no hay muchas. Esto si es salsa de la buena.

It must have been an exciting time. I caught it in the 70's and lived the whole FANIA experience, but this was earlier and who really knew.....

Great musicians, Al Santiago,s idea. He was the owner of Alegre Records. They followed the footsteps of Julio Gutierrez and his Cuban Jam Sessions. In this recording we can listen to Chamaco Ramirez singer of Tommy Olivencia y Su Primerisima Orquesta. among others are Johnny Pacheco, Charlie Palmieri (musical director) Kako, Barry Rogers, Chombo Silva, Bobby Rodriguez, Marcelino Valdez, Dioris Valladares; who else?
I remember being at the village gate on a monday night when luis ramirez and his orchestra was there with El gran combo . It wwas near thansgiving about 83 or 84 . Both bands played their sets then they teamed up and played una descarga. The artistry of Louie on the timbales and the timbalero from El gran combo was engraved in my memory and heart for ever
you should listen to the song 'Manteca' that was done back in 1993
Who are these guys? they are good..! Biography please.
