There is more than one definition of irony... this song does not follow the definition of literary irony. Even if it attempted to that would be a silly thing ti nitpick. Since when do most songs make perfect sense or follow all the rules of language? Enjoy the music and move on. ;)

not irony, bad luck. there's a difference. Although I do like the song... It's catchy!
I understand the conversation about the difference between irony and unfortunate events. But, I think we can all agree that "isn't it ironic, don't you think" has a better flow to it than "isn't it an unfortunate event, don't you think."
This song is actually not ironic at all. We discussed irony in English class and all of these things mentioned in this song are just unfortunate. You see there is a complicated process in making something ironic and she didn't follow it.
Alanis is the Art Garfunkle, Jimi Hendrix, Blondie of her time. Her music is harsh, fresh and real. She says what has to be said and she says it oh so very well. Pink comes close to her but Alais is the best. This aint no Britney, dude.
