I was in central Kansas when I heard. I was loading the last of my late mother's earthly possessions. So no, I could not call my mother, but how grateful I am now that she never knew we were at war again. I gave my big sis a hug and got in mom's car and drove north west down the loneliest stretches of Interstates 70, 25 and 90 to our home 1400 miles away. It was eery as strangers looked my over and I them, at truck stops along the northern US border.
