The Six Parts Seven was founded by brothers Allen (guitar) and Jay Karpinski (drums) in 1995. Based in Kent, OH, the band's indie rock appeal stems from the influences of Brian Eno and John Fahey. They issued Silence Magnifies Sound in 2000 with Tim Gerak (guitars, samples), Brad Visker (bass). Two years later, the Six Parts Seven expanded into a sextet, adding Matt Haas (lap steel, high-lonesome guitar), and Steven Clements (grand piano). Things Shaped in Passing followed on Suicide Squeeze that March. They toured in support of the album for the next two years. During that time, The Six Parts Seven issued a split EP with with The Black Keys while also writing and recording a third album. Lost Notes From Forgotten Songs appeared in fall 2003. ~ MacKenzie Wilson, Rovi
Saw them in Ohio at different venues & times.. always pushing the envelope.. widely loved by musicians but not public at large.. Karpinski bros long may you run, wherever you are
As a -year resident of Ohio, I can tell you my home state has everything I could ever want... and a whole lot of crap I'd love to get rid of. Since I'm a fan of affordable housing, I'm staying.
agreed with all. the full range, esoteric & ethereal without repeating, icelandic style, able to chainsaw & rampage, underwater / wintery type sounds. swe-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-t. also try 'this will destroy you' (band)...perhaps even a bit better.
i'm listening to "sleeping diagonally" and freaking out because i could've sworn this is Sam Beam singing...and then i look at the track name more closely and see that it is featuring Sam Beam. my world made more sense after that
I started listening to Mogwai and Sigur Ros when I was in high school but I've been slow to pick up much else in the genre...now it's 10 years later and this kind of post-rock and shoegaze stuff is all I'm listening to. If this was a romantic comedy movie, post-rock and I would have been friends in high school that drifted apart and met up randomly after college and got together. Twoo wuv.

I'm a big explosions in the sky fan, I like their music a lot. Very similar!
Skeleton Fish I second that. Been trying to tweak a station for a couple weeks and only RIGHT NOW is the first time they've come in. Geez, can't wait to check them out more.
I can't understand why Pandora didn't play these guys on my playlist sooner. I wish they had just filtered through all the s**t so I could fall in lover faster <3
"The Stolen Moments" is one of the greatest songs ever written - bar none! Reminds me of Medeski, Martin, & Wood's cover of King Sunny Ade's "Moti Mo" from their 1st album, It's a Jungle In Here! INCREDIBLE Horn line!!!
