Equal parts emo and metal, Portland, OR, quartet 36 Crazyfists -- named after a Jackie Chan movie -- comprised members Brock Lindow (vocals), Steve Holt (guitar/vocals), Mick Whitney (bass), and Thomas Noonan (drums). Originally formed in December of 1994 in Anchorage, AK, the quartet played out locally before relocating to Portland (after the death of their original bassist), opening up for the likes of System of a Down, Primus, blink-182, and NOFX, among others. The quartet eventually signed to Roadrunner in 2000, after their friends in Skinlab passed their demo on to the label. Their first album, Bitterness the Star, appeared in 2002. A Snow Capped Romance, which was produced by James Paul Wisner (Dashboard Confessional, As Friends Rust), followed two years later. They toured nonstop behind the record (playing shows with acts like Killswitch Engage and Poison the Well) through December, taking two months off before beginning work on their next album. 36 Crazyfists entered the studio with producer Sal Villaneuva (who'd worked with Thursday and Taking Back Sunday) in October 2005 to commence recording, and their resulting third album, Rest Inside the Flames, appeared in June 2006. ~ Greg Prato, Rovi
Save for one, every person I have talked to about 36 heard about them for the first time because of Bitterness the Star. How is it excluded from the Selected Discography? Also, Pandora, add Delmag to your collection.
Been a fan of 36 since the start, I try to go see them everytime they are back up in Alaska. Such a great band, and just because they actually have talent and can sing, rather than just scream, doesn't make them an emo band. They have been around doing their thing long before emo even came about lol...and yes bitterness the stars is the best cd ever, shame on pandora for not including it. turns to ashes, slit wrist theory, all i am...don't even get me started
This bio is a damn shame. Mick and Thomas are no longer with the band, and the future is unknown. And hells yeah Bitterness is the best 36 album, but they're all amazing. And they're not emo in the slightest. Dranks brews with Brock and Mick in Florida, cool a** dudes the say the least. F**k you very much Greg Prato.
the only problem i se is that they are from Anchorage alaska.. and they are very good friends of mine as well.. Holt still lives in portland.. but other then that.. then rest of the guys live here.. and bitterness the star shold be played on here.. amazing guys and great music..
good band, and good station, but why is Bitterness the Star left out of Pandora? Definitely the best album, yet not available here. Not emo at all. Singing with a (holy jesus titty balls) strong falsetto does not an emo band make. In fact, I cant think of another vocalist in metal who comes close in this arena. Since it isn't on here, go look up Slit Wrist Theory, the vocal performance still gives me chills when I listen to it.
Mick Whitney is not dead you morons! He is alive and well and was with the band until 2009 when he quit due to the needs of his family. Look him up he lives in Portland
36CF is awesome. Definitely in my top 5 bands. Too bad Pandora doesnt have thier first cd. It's the most unique of them all in my opinion, and heavy as hell.
I saw 36 live in Sioux Falls South Dakota. it was the best show I have ever been too. it was awesome too because that was their first show in South Dakota. In no way are they emo so change the bio by the way.
I don't like how the bio says they are "equal parts emo and metal". That's not true at all. Their music is very positive and optimistic. Check out this other bio, the truth of 36CF. http://www.sing365.com/music/lyric.nsf/36-Crazyfists-Biography/A712FCA2A3C7FE2D48256C4D00162BC5

How do they not have Bitterness the Star??? I wanted to hear Slit Wrist Theory!
I usually don't like emo bands but these guys are awesome. They are metal enough for me. Brock's voice is amazing. Saw them at Peabody's in Cleveland and I was blown away.
im from alaska and have seen them live many times ,,didnt know they were portland based, and if you ask the band they will tell you theres no crowd like an alaskan crowd
metal17
i'm from the same state they are from which is alaska, and they seem to be pretty popular up here, too.the lead singer has awesome f**kin' screams!
baron srsly? i think its pretty badass how he sings... and its a little emo but w/e's i love "I'll go til my heart stops" his scream Ive tried and its so hard to mimic
overall i like the band and there great live.. they get the pits going

They went on the New Metal Fest tour (The Mayhem Tour) sponsored by Rockstar. I came threw Western NY in august of 08. Was a great show hopefully the tour wont die out because the line up was amazing.
saw them at hawkeye downs here in cedar rapids iowa a couple months after the floods with the human abstract, all that remains and trivium. they were second in the line up and they were second only to all that remains at that concert, and man was that an awesome show! definatley want to see these guys back in cedar rapids sometime
I love these guys. The've grown so much over the years.. They really deserve better than what they've gotten. Rest Inside the Flames is an incredible album.

there great in concert :O!

They moved back to the AK! Couldn't handle the hip hip Portland.
First of all, I could barely understand the guy when he was talking. Secondly, the songs barely sounded like the album versions. Lastly, I don't give a flying f**k cause it was some of the coolest s**t I've seen!

BUT VOCALLY- the singing style is GAAAAY, I really dont like the senssssitive , emo style. Just doesnt fit with metal like this.
