Upon their 1998 formation, 20 Minute Loop have maintained their gender-mixed trademark of uppity hooks and new wave beats to their native of San Francisco. Resulting in their self-proclaimed sound of "freak-pop," the quintet of Kelly Atkins (vocals/keyboards), Greg Giles (guitar/vocals), Joe Ostrowski (guitar), Dan Jones (bass), and Ethan Turner (drums) brought on an added inspiration of X, the Pixies, Pavement, and PJ Harvey. By 1999, 20 Minute Loop signed to Fortune Records and released their self-titled debut album the following year. ~ Mike DaRonco, Rovi
Great harmonies -- kind of jangled -- like a wheel is about to fall off; then the sweet oooh's and aah's bring cohesiveness back again. Great mix of timbres between the male and female voices. More energy than you were planning for, but always a welcome wake up from mundanity. One of my top 25 finds of the last 3 years.
This is another one of my favorite bands. I love their male/female mixed vocals and their music seems to have many layers. I've loved them from the first time I saw them at the Bottom Of The Hill. Each one of their albums is wonderful and differs enough from the other albums to keep their music fresh and interesting.
